BESARES FOUNDATION

Our mission is to act as a bridge between two worlds: That of children from underprivileged sectors of society and that of artists in need of financial support to materialize their work. The foundation grants scholarships to finance artistic projects and in turn, artists give classes in their respective disciplines to children in different low income neighbourhoods.

Through this programme, children will have the chance to broaden their contact with art, receiving new stimuli for their personal and cultural growth as well as their social inclusion. On the other hand artists will have an opportunity to finance their work through solidarity work. Thus the foundation promotes a virtuous circle in which art becomes a vehicle for social transformation and cultural development.

SOLIDARITY ALBUM

Solidarity Album is a platform which enables independent musicians to finance the recording of their album by teaching music classes in low income neighborhoods. The foundation seeks musicians with teaching experience through open calls. The selected artists then receive a scholarship to record their albums and in turn teach music at underprivileged neighbourhoods. The foundation will also connect musicians with producers, recording engineers and studios deemed appropriate for the artist’s specific project. Thus, Besares Foundation also contributes to the development of the activity of professionals in the recording industry.

REC. MY SONG

The musician teachers who teach at the school support centers propose a workshop modality whose objective is to compose a song. Throughout the workshop, the process is filmed, so that later, with this material, a video clip of the song can be created. Once the workshop is finished, the children and their teachers go to a professional recording studio to record the song they have composed.

A project of social inclusion through music with these characteristics not only gives greater visibility to the participation of the musicians and the support centers in Disco Solidario, but also brings into play a series of values and benefits for the children that are inherent to collective musical creation. This requires participation, integration, collaboration, listening to others, exchanging opinions, a socialization that involves getting in touch with play and enjoyment, giving rise to the healing capacity of music to counteract feelings of loneliness, helplessness and other traumas that are the product of deprivation and / or extreme experiences. We want to continue building bridges between worlds, between culture and social inclusion, and there is no better way to crown this wonderful experience than with a concrete fruit that synthesizes what we are looking for, a song with children as protagonists.

BESARES FOUNDATION ARCHIVE

Since its inauguration in 1989, Besares Foundation has worked in various areas of social interest, mainly in culture, education and health. Below you can see the history of the current management, which began in 2012. Between 2012 and 2017 the foundation operated under the name Centro Cultural Besares, located in the Nuñez neighborhood in the City of Buenos Aires. During those years the foundation focused on supporting the independent and emerging art of Buenos Aires, through exhibitions, recitals, workshops, readings, multidisciplinary meetings and other activities in the cultural field. Currently the foundation continues to support independent art with scholarships from the “Arte Solidario” program.
